Each newly released movie would contain the latest version of this deathlist. These drive ID codes would be added to a deathlist (my term, not an official one) that would be continually updated. They would then extract the drive ID code from these copies.

The plan was that Sony & friends would trawl the internet and car boot sales for copied films. This ID would then be readable from a copy of that rip (even if transcoded). The plan at that time was that all drives would put a unique ID into the content of whatever it ripped.

I may be years out of date here, but I did read an article about blu-ray copy protection while it was being developed. yet they all play fine in powerdvd?Ĭan this be right? is it something any of you have come across before, and how did you get past it? it just seems odd that a blu-ray should immediately render any drive useless just by inserting it. the makemkv forum tells me that it's not their programme at fault but that if i install a disc with this version of AACS into a drive it'll automatically render said drive useless. both gave me the same warning that "the AACS key has been revoked" by my drive. Then i tried another film, and another but neither would rip. i thought nothing of it and just watched it in powerdvd as i have come across discs before which wouldn't rip. the reason it seems, is that said disc uses AACSv23. however, this week i put a movie in my drive which makemkv could not rip. i have been using makemkv to rip blu-rays to my hdd with no problems up to now.

Mods, if you feel this question crosses the line, please let me know and i'll edit it. OK, first off let me state that i know there's a fine line between what is and what is not acceptable when discussing ripping discs.
